Wrathful Black Tara Who Destroys Enemies, Adversaries, Evil, Curses is the 7th Tara in all lineages of 21 Taras. She emanates in wrathful form to become the powerful destroyer of enemies, evil and curses or black magic, evil intentions of others, negative obstacles, and even our own negative emotions.

Here, chanted, in the Surya Gupta lineage style, as transmitted by Tara to the great Mahasiddha Surya Gupta. The lineages included: Tara Mulakalpa Tantra Lineage: Shakyamuni Buddha, Vajrapani, Hayapala, Hayaghosha, Rahulabhadra (Saraha), Nagarjuna, Aryadeva, Rahulabhadra the Younger, Jvalashespa, Dharma Bhadra Pala, Nagamitra, Suryagupta, after which it was brought to Tibet.

PERMISSION IS NOT REQUIRED for this mantra although it is beneficial to ask your teacher for lung (transmission) when the opportunity arises. However, the mantra is efficacious for those with faith, regardless. You should visualized Black Tara in front of you. She is visualized "standing" and wrathful on a sun disc, with four arms: Her first right hand holds a Dharma wheel, and the second holds a sword. Her first left hand holds a lotus on which rests a vajra, and the second is making a threatening mudra. She has a wrathful expression and is standing in a heroic posture; Her right leg is bent and my left out- stretched. She is surrounded by a blazing wisdom fire. MANTRA: The Surya Gupta lineage mantra is a concise form of the 7th Tara mantra from the lineage of Lord Atisha, except here, “Vidya” is chanted as “Beya” (Tibetan) and Bhye and Phat (as in "cut" the obstacles) are not chanted at the end as they ware with Atisha’s lineage, ending instead with Soha. PRAISE to Tara Who Crushes Adversaries

Homage to You who with the TRAY and PEY sounds,
Crush every magical wheel, evil forces,
Right leg extended and left bent, you trample,
You burn them completely in Your whirling fire.
